Under the Franchise Act 1998, franchisors must register with the Registrar of Franchises under the Ministry of Domestic Trade before offering franchises to the public. This requires a completed franchise disclosure document, the relevant application form, and supporting documentation. Registration typically takes six to twelve weeks. Foreign franchisors have specific requirements, including maintaining a locally registered entity or entering through a master franchise structure.

How long does franchise agreement drafting take?

Most franchise agreements are delivered within three to four weeks from engagement, once all relevant information about your franchise model has been provided. The fee covers the initial draft and up to three rounds of negotiation. Complex arrangements involving multiple territories or multi-party structures may require additional time.

All engagements are formalised with a clear written letter setting out scope and applicable fees before work commences.
